2017-18 Writer’s Notebook Entries

Marking Period #1 (All content must be school-appropriate)

1. What is one thing in your life would like to change and make better?

2. If you had the whole day to yourself, without parents or teachers or homework, how would you spend the day?

3. Fill a page with poetry.

4. Fill a page with two sentence stories.

5. Imagine you are a character from your favorite show or movie. Who is it? Why? 

6. Create an alter ego. Provide a name and a backstory. What is the appeal of this alter ego to you? How does this alter ego behave differently from you?

7. Academy 1 is a school that believes is collaborative and cooperative learning. Do you believe working in groups is helpful to your learning? Why or why not?

8. What are you really really good at? Write  how-to explaining how we can become good at that thing too.

9. What would you do if there was no tomorrow?

10. Would you rather be rich and have no family or have a family but live in poverty?

Marking Period #2 (All content must be school-appropriate)

1. Write one your best memories, but from someone else's perspective.

2. Scenario: Your favorite person on earth is about to get hit by a train, and at the same time 20 strangers are seconds from being exploded by an evil villain. You have time and skills to save either your favorite person or the stranger; what do you do?

3. What type of teacher is typically the most effective?  One who grades hard, or easy?

4. Retell a famous story but from a new perspective.

5. Would you rather be rich, powerful, or wise?  Explain your rationale.

6. You enter a pet store and can choose between a puppy or a kitten?  What do you do?

7. Create a mission statement for a utopian society.  Describe life.  How would ideals be enforced?

8. Do you believe in karma?  How so?

9. Is it better to be well-liked or respected?  Justify your reasoning.

10. Are you a morning person or a night owl?  Prove it.

1. What have you most enjoyed studying at Academy 1? Share some of the thinks you've learned.

2. Write about you most interesting dream.

3. Write about your favorite season.

4. What would you do if you knew you only had 24 hours left to live?

5. If you could design the perfect friend, what would they be like?

6. Imagine yourself as your favorite animal. What is your day like?

7. If you could live inside a movie, book or TV show, what would it be and why?

8. Write a story featuring you and your favorite comic book hero.

9. Can dreams come true?

10. What do you do when you have the house to yourself?

1. What are you most excited about when you reach high school?

2. Tell the story of the first time you got in trouble.

3. What will you miss most about Academy 1?

4. How do you imagine yourself in 40 years?

5. What would you do as president for a day?

6. Design your own nation and flag. Explain the rules and the symbolism behind the flag design.

7. If you could have a celebrity BFF, who would it be and why?

8. What is the one saying you live by and why?

9. Share your favorite memory from Academy 1.
